LUXURIANT ANCIENT BEAUTY- MYRRH

Myrrh is an aromatic gum resin extracted from a variety of trees/shrubs belonging to the Burseraceae family, primarily the Commiphora Myrrha.

Native to the Arabian Peninsula and parts of Africa, Myrrh has long been used in various ways throughout history. Since Bible times there are references of the valuable oil being used as one of the ingredients in Holy anointing, and even to luxuriate (added to oil for massaging, body lotions, incense and as a perfume). Therapeutically it was also used for the treatment of wounds and embalming.

Why though is Myrrh such a commodity? And what benefits does it possess for our skin today?

To put it simply, it has an amazing molecular structure which include sesquiterpenes and terpenoids. These specifically work to soothe inflammation and protect against cell damage.

Living in an increasingly polluted environment, we need all the antioxidant/ antidotes we can get and it is the potency of this molecular marvel, which has earnt itself the position as one of the headliners in our deluxe Ultra Cream. See the list below for some of our favourite benefits of Myrrh on skin.

  1. Powerful antioxidant
  2. Moisturising
  3. Anti-cancer
  4. Anti-fungal
  5. Anti-bacterial
  6. Astringent

Used from times of old; if it’s not broken, don’t fix it!

xoxo
